Barbarakirche
Wilhelmstraße 8, 56338 Braubach
church of St. Barbara
The former parish church of St. Barbara, dating back to 1265, is now the community center of the Evangelical Congregation of Braubach. The tower of the Barbarakirche served as a defensive tower in the 13th century and was part of the city fortifications. In the church room, there are art-historically significant wall paintings. The early Gothic paintings on the choir arch were created before the year 1330 and depict female figures from the parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins. Also from this period is the wall painting of the Calvary in the former sacristy. Here, two voluminous representations of apostles from the late 15th century can also be found.
Landgravine Anna Elisabeth of Palatinate-Simmern (1559–1609), who lived in Philippsburg Castle in Braubach, had the church expanded at the end of the 16th century.
After the construction of the flood-safe Markus Church in 1901, it was converted into a community center.
The community center can be visited upon request. Civil weddings take place in the church room.
