The Blücher Museum in the town of Kaub immerses visitors in the fateful year of 1813 with its historically designed furnishings and its collection of various military, artistic, and other contemporary memorabilia.

Interior view of the Blücher Museum in Kaub on the Rhine

In the former inn “Zur Stadt Mannheim,” a beautiful Baroque building erected in 1780, Blücher’s headquarters were located at that time. Since 1913, the memory of this period has been lovingly and uniquely preserved in Blücher's practically unchanged living quarters, which are under monument protection.

It conveys the time of the bourgeois-patriotic movement in Germany to liberate itself from the Napoleonic yoke. Through the introduction of compulsory military service, the calling of volunteer hunters, the formation of the militia, and the founding of free corps, a general arming of the people took place.

The main theme of the museum is the crossing of the Rhine by the Silesian Army, which, after the Battle of Leipzig in the first week of the New Year 1814, crossed the Rhine on a Russian pontoon bridge at the nearby Pfalz under the Prussian field marshal Blücher.

This theme is exhaustively treated with contemporary memorabilia, images, and display boards. A large tin figure diorama “Blücher's Rhine Crossing at Kaub” brings this historical event particularly close to the visitor. Additionally, there are other noteworthy dioramas.
